Make Your Own Wedding App with Fan Page Mobilizer
Not long ago it was a novelty to have a wedding website, something only the geekiest among us were able to pull off. Fast forward to today and it’s rare to get a wedding invitation that doesn’t include a web address.

The rise of the wedding website has mirrored the trend across the web of everyday people having the tools to create their own presence online. Our mission with Cabana is to do the same to mobile app development, and with Fan Page Mobilizer we hope to make the wedding app as common as the wedding site!

This post will walk you through some tips to set up your wedding Facebook page for use with Fan Page Mobilizer. In the end you’ll have an awesome wedding page and app to share with your family all leading up to your big day!

Chances are the majority of your guests are already on Facebook which makes it a great place to engage and share information about your wedding.  Facebook pages are so nicely set up to serve as a wedding site, we’re surprised more people aren’t using them this way. The main features of Facebook Pages that we’ll be using are:

  • Wall Posts - this will serve as the news feed for your app
  • Events - we’ll use these to serve as the schedule of events
  • Albums - these will be used to make your app feel alive and visually interesting
  • About - this will be used in the “Info” section of your app
  • Timeline - while timeline won’t be directly used in the app, we think it’s a great way to tell the history of the engaged couple

Getting Started:
To start, go to Facebook and create a page for your wedding.  Now you can start adding all sorts of content to fill out the basics of the page:

  • Pick two great pictures of the couple for the profile and cover photos.
  • Add a description and information to the about section
  • You can set when the page’s timeline starts, so maybe pick when you got engaged or you first met
  • Fill out the timeline with key dates in your relationship or wedding planning

Albums:
Albums from your page will appear in the Album section of the app, and random pictures from these albums will appear on the App home screen. Put together a few albums that will help get people excited about the wedding, like:

  • Pictures of the Couple
  • Baby Pictures of the Bride and Groom
  • Engagement Photos or Engagement Party Photos
  • Bachelor and Bachelorette Party Photos
  • The Wedding Party

Events:
By adding all the different parts of your wedding celebration as events you’ll give your guests all the information they’ll need to schedule and get to the various venues.  Be sure to add a detailed location and address so the app can properly display a map to the events and use their phone’s GPS to map their route.  Also add an image for each of the events.  The app will present the events on the app home screen, and will use an image if there is one, so adding an image will make the app look it’s best.

About:
Your app will have an information section that will display information from the About section of your page.  If you want to include a contact number for your guests add that to the phone section.  If you have another wedding website in addition to the fan page, you can list it in the website section and the app will display it.

Wall Posts:
Finally, start posting to your Facebook page regularly, and this info will be posted in your app’s news section.  Let people know when you’ve picked out your rings, or when you’ve decided where to go on your honeymoon!

Once your Facebook page is ready, go to FanPageMobilizer.com to turn your page into a wedding app.  You’ll be given a URL that you can send to all your guests or even include in your invitation.  From now on when you update content on your Facebook page (everything from wall posts to new photos) that content will automatically appear in your app!

Good luck and congratulations!
